What You Will Need When Registering Your Baby’s Birth

  • The date of their birth
  • Where they were born
  • Their full name
  • The mother's full name
  • The mother's date and place of birth
  • The mother's occupation (If any)
  • The mother's address.

 

If the father's details are to be Included, the registrar will also need to know the following:

  • The father's full name
  • The father's date and place of birth
  • The father's occupation (If any)
  • The father's address

 

doctor with birth certificateIf you are married, the registrar will also need to know the date of your marriage and the mother's name before you were married.

The registrar will give you a short birth certificate free of charge and a form with your baby's National Health Service number on it which you must give to your doctor.

There Is no charge for registering a birth. However, you may want a full birth certificate, which shows the parents' names. Many organisations now ask for this type of birth certificate, including the UK Passport Agency.
